Hisense dishwasher stopping mid-cycle, any ideas?

If it stops mid-cycle and leaves water in the bottom, the first thing to establish is whether it’s failing to drain, or whether it’s pausing because it can’t heat or fill properly. At just over a year old, it’s usually worth checking the basics before writing it off.

1. Check the filters and sump Remove and clean the filters thoroughly. Look into the sump for debris such as glass, labels, food sludge or bits of bone that could be jamming the drain pump.

2. Check the drain hose and sink plumbing Make sure the drain hose isn’t kinked or crushed behind the machine. If it drains into a sink trap, check the spigot isn’t blocked with grease or debris.

3. Listen when it stalls When it stops, can you hear a humming noise? A hum with water left inside often points to a blocked or jammed drain pump. Silence may suggest it’s waiting for heat, a level signal, or a control issue.

4. Try a cancel/drain programme Run a drain or cancel cycle. If it still won’t empty, the drain pump or blockage is the main suspect. If it drains fine but stops only during wash cycles, heating system faults or a pressure/level issue become more likely.

5. Check for signs of heating failure If the water is stone cold part way through a hot wash, some dishwashers will stall waiting to heat. That would need proper testing of heater, wiring, NTC or control board.

6. Consider repair vs replace If it’s just a blockage or pump, repair is often worthwhile. If it turns out to be a control board or multiple faults, replacement may make more sense on a budget machine.

Isolate it from the mains before inspecting anything internal. For mains electrical testing or internal component replacement, it’s best to use a qualified appliance engineer.
