Tumble Dryer Repair Help
Condenser, vented and heat pump dryers that won't heat, keep stopping or leave the load damp.
Tumble dryers are simple machines but they still fail, usually because of heat or airflow. The faults we see most are a tumble dryer not heating, clothes still damp after a full cycle, the dryer not turning on at all, cycles taking far too long, or a rumbling or squealing noise from a worn drum bearing or belt.
Whatever type you own — vented, condenser or heat pump, from Hotpoint, Beko, Bosch, Indesit, Candy and more — our community can help you find the fault. Browse the questions below or ask your own; answers come from fellow owners, real engineers, and our WhitegoodsHelp AI Assistant.

Common tumble dryer problems
Why is my tumble dryer not heating?
No heat usually means a blown thermal cut-out (often caused by trapped fluff), a failed heating element, or a faulty thermostat. Always clean the filter and check the condenser or vent first, because blocked airflow is what trips the cut-outs. Tell us the model and we can help.
Why are my clothes still damp after drying?
Poor drying is almost always an airflow problem — a clogged filter, a full water tank, a blocked condenser, or a kinked vent hose. Heat pump dryers also dry more slowly by design. Clean everything through and tell us whether it improves.
Why is my tumble dryer taking so long to dry?
Long cycles point to restricted airflow or a weak heater. Clean the lint filter and condenser, empty the water tank, and make sure the vent is not blocked or crushed. Let us know your model and how long a normal load now takes.
Why is my tumble dryer making a loud noise?
A rumbling, grinding, or squealing noise is usually a worn drum bearing, a jockey/tensioner pulley, or a fraying belt. Describe the noise and when it happens and the community can help you pin it down.
