Bosch dishwasher very noisy during the wash

A loud grinding or droning noise during the wash on a Bosch usually points to either something catching in the wash pump area, a spray arm issue, or a motor/pump beginning to wear.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the dishwasher from the mains.

1. Check for simple obstructions Remove both baskets and inspect the sump/filter area carefully. Take out the filters and look for glass, labels, fruit pips, bone fragments or bits of plastic around the pump cover. Even a small item can cause a grinding noise throughout wash.

2. Inspect the spray arms Remove and check both spray arms for splits, looseness or blockage. If one is cracked or catching on a tall item in the basket, it can create a droning or repetitive grinding sound. Also make sure nothing in the baskets is protruding down into their path.

3. Listen for when the noise starts If the noise appears only when it is actively washing, that strongly suggests the circulation pump/motor rather than the drain pump. If it is noisy only while draining, the drain pump or a blockage is more likely.

4. Check installation/contact noise Make sure the machine isn’t touching the sides of the cabinet and that pipework or the power lead behind it is not vibrating against the carcass. A built-in Bosch can amplify normal motor noise if it is tight in the housing.

5. Consider pump wear If all of the above checks are clear and the noise is constant through the wash stage, the circulation pump/motor may be wearing out. On a two-year-old machine this is not impossible, but it needs proper diagnosis.

If you can narrow down exactly when in the cycle it happens, that would help. For internal electrical checks or pump replacement, use a qualified appliance engineer.
