Miele dishwasher not drying the dishes, any ideas?

If a Miele dishwasher is washing properly but leaving everything very wet, the fault can be anything from normal loading/setting issues to a heating problem. The cheapest checks are worth doing first.

1. Check the programme and options used Some eco or quick programmes dry less effectively, especially on plastics. Try a normal/intensive programme and make sure any “extra dry” type option is enabled if your model has it.

2. Check rinse aid Low or empty rinse aid is a very common cause of poor drying. Top it up and, if adjustable, increase the rinse aid setting slightly. This helps water sheet off rather than sit on the dishes.

3. Look at loading Plastics never dry as well as crockery, but if everything is soaked, make sure items aren’t nesting and cups/bowls aren’t holding pools of water. Poor loading can prevent proper final drying.

4. Does it seem to be heating properly? Open the door carefully mid-cycle on a wash programme. If there’s no obvious heat/steam and plates aren’t warm, the heater, thermostat/temperature sensing, wiring or control may be at fault. If it’s not heating, drying will also be poor.

5. Check filters and drainage Clean the filters and make sure it is draining fully. If dirty water is being left behind, drying performance can suffer.

6. If the fault started suddenly A sudden change often points more to a failed heating circuit than a simple setting issue.

Isolate the appliance from the mains before inspecting any internal parts. If heating components, wiring, or the control board need testing, that’s mains electrical work and best left to a qualified appliance engineer.
