Indesit fridge freezer showing an error code, any ideas?

Hi, on many Indesit/Hotpoint fridge freezers an F1 fault often points towards a temperature sensor/thermistor issue, but I wouldn’t treat that as certain without checking a few basics first because model variations do exist.

1. Reset it first Switch the appliance off at the mains for 10–15 minutes, then power it back up. If the code returns quickly, it suggests a genuine fault rather than a temporary glitch.

2. Check the actual cooling Put a thermometer in a glass of water in the fridge section for a few hours. The fridge should be around 3–5°C and the freezer about -18°C. If temperatures are unstable, that supports a control, sensor, fan, or defrost-related fault.

3. Look for icing or airflow problems If it’s a frost-free model, heavy ice behind the rear freezer panel can upset temperatures and trigger faults. Also check the internal vents aren’t blocked by food and that the door seals are sealing properly.

4. Listen for the fan and compressor If the compressor is cycling oddly, or the internal fan is not running when it should, the control board may be getting bad temperature feedback.

5. Likely parts to investigate The usual suspects are the cabinet/freezer thermistor, evaporator sensor, wiring to the sensor, or less commonly the main PCB.

Important: isolate the appliance from the mains before removing any panels or inspecting internal parts. If testing wiring, replacing control boards, or dealing with sealed refrigeration components, it’s best to use a qualified engineer.
