Samsung fridge freezer smelling bad inside

Bad smells that persist after a proper clean are usually caused by something hidden rather than a “common Samsung fault” as such. On frost-free fridge freezers, the usual culprits are stale water, trapped food residue, or a blocked drain.

1. Check the fridge drain hole On many Samsung models there is a drain at the back of the fridge section, usually behind/under the salad drawers. If it blocks, dirty water can sit in the drain channel and start to smell. Clear it gently with warm water and something non-sharp.

2. Inspect the evaporator/drain tray area Water from defrosting often runs to a tray near the compressor underneath the appliance. If food debris or slime gets into this area it can smell awful. Pull the appliance out and check underneath and around the rear lower area.

3. Look behind drawers, shelves and seals Small spills can run under trims, into drawer runners, or behind the salad drawer cover. Also wipe the door seals thoroughly and check for trapped food.

4. Check for spoiled insulation or internal liner damage If liquid from meat, fish or milk has seeped into cracks, vents or insulation, smells can linger and be very difficult to remove. Inspect carefully for splits or gaps inside the cabinet.

5. Rule out food odour from the freezer Defrosted or leaking freezer items can also taint the whole cabinet, especially if packaging has split.

Isolate the appliance from the mains before inspecting internal parts or moving panels. If the smell seems to be coming from behind the inner back panel, or anything involves electrics or sealed refrigeration parts, get a qualified engineer.
