Hotpoint Washing Machine WMUD 9427 Not filling with water
Andy,
Our Hotpoint WMUD 9427 washing machine recently gave a F05 fault code, after cleaning out the pump filter, pump and flushing through all the hoses I'm now seeing a problem when I try to start any new cycle. The door locked symbol appears as soon as I close the door (which shouldn't be happening until the cycle actually starts) and no water gets brought into the machine. I've carried out a spin cycle after first putting a bucket of water into the drum. This proved that the water drained out and the spin cycle appeared to be carried out correct. Any other cycle I start doesn't do what it should except count down the timer. I should shut the door, press start, at which point the door should lock and water show flow into the drum, not happening.
Any advice you've got would be most appreciated.
Ben

Hi Ben,
It sounds like the original drain fault may now be cleared, but the machine is either not being told to fill, or it thinks a condition has already been met so it just sits there counting down.
Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.
1. Check the water supply first Make sure the inlet tap is fully on and the fill hose isn’t kinked. Unscrew the inlet hose at the machine end and check the little filter gauze in the inlet valve for blockage.
2. Listen for the inlet valve Start a wash programme and listen carefully. If you hear a faint hum but no water enters, suspect a blocked or failed inlet valve, or poor water supply. If there is no sound at all, the valve may not be getting power, or the control isn’t calling for fill.
3. Recheck the pressure system If the pressure chamber or pressure switch hose is partially blocked, the machine can think it is already full and refuse to fill. Check the thin pressure hose for splits, kinks or soap gunge, and make sure the chamber connection is clear.
4. Door lock behaviour The door locking as soon as the door is shut suggests either the lock is being energised incorrectly, or the control board is misreading the lock circuit. If the lock proves closed when it shouldn’t, the programme can behave oddly.
5. If possible, inspect wiring/connectors Pay particular attention to wiring to the door lock, pressure switch and inlet valves. A disturbed or corroded connector can cause this sort of fault.
If water supply, valve filter and pressure hose are all fine, the likely suspects are the inlet valve, pressure switch system, door interlock, or the main PCB. Any live electrical testing should be left to a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
