Indesit PWE91472WUK Problem
Hi everyone
Really hope someone can help me.
I have an Indesit PWE91472WUK washing machine, it has served my very very well in the years I've had it.
The first time I encountered a problem was last December, I believe it was an F05 fault code which worked itself out, it happened a few times, but when the engineer came out it almost magically disappeared as no repairs were undertaken and I've not had any problems until last week.
This time it's a different fault code - F06, which going by the manual and the general consensus online is a door lock fault, which would coincide with the issues I've been having...
As soon as you close the door the red padlock light would come on, which means the door is locked, which it would be & I'd be unable to open it unless the plug is removed from the mains and the machine resets.
Despite this, I tried to put a load on and after about 30 seconds of whirring and thinking about what it wants to do I get the error code flashing constantly on the display, I've tried changing the door interlock and have used 2 different ones and still no success. Since opening the machine to change the interlock I can smell some kind of burning coming from the machine and now not only does the code flash, the whole display itself flashes on and off.
I'm really at a loss as what could be the issue and would greatly appreciate any assistance of insight into the problem
Kind regards

Indesit PWE91472WUK showing F06 with door lock light and burning smell
- The problem
- Indesit PWE91472WUK developed an F06 fault. The door appeared to lock as soon as it was closed, the red padlock light came on, and the door could only be reopened after unplugging the machine to reset it. When a programme was started, the machine reportedly whirred for about 30 seconds, turned the drum a few times, then flashed the fault code. After the door interlock was changed, a burning smell was noticed and the display began flashing on and off.
- Likely cause
- The accepted reply suggests a fault in the pressure system, possibly a blocked pressure system or related pressure-system fault. This was linked to the machine not taking in water, turning the drum a few times, and a burning smell, with concern that the heater may be energising without water inside. The exact failed part was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- Recommended action was to investigate the pressure system for blockage or fault rather than the door interlock alone. No completed repair or confirmed fix was documented in the thread.
- Checks to try
- F06 fault code displayed
- Door locked immediately when closed and only released after unplugging
- Machine whirred for about 30 seconds before faulting
- Drum turned a few times
- Burning smell present
- Door interlock was replaced with two different interlocks without success
- Parts or tools mentioned
- door interlock
Safety: A burning smell was reported and the accepted reply warned of possible heater operation with no water inside, which is dangerous. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

If the washing machine doesn't take in water and starts turning the drum a few times and there's a smell of burning it could be that the pressure system is faulty and the heater is coming on with no water inside which of course is very dangerous. It could be a blocked pressure system or a fault somewhere else.
