My BOSCH WAS32460GB Washing machine buttons wont work when the door lock engages.

Symptoms - You can pick a cycle when the door is open but the buttons stop respond. The machine starts as soon as the door is closed and all functions on the control panel stop working, no response at all and the display goes out..... you have to manually override the locking mechanism to open the machine, no error code have been displayed.

Any advice as to what this may be?

It does sound like the fault appears the moment the door interlock is energised, which usually points to either the door lock itself, its wiring, or the main control module reacting badly when the lock circuit comes in.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.

1. Check the door lock/interlock first If the machine starts as soon as the door shuts, then the control may be seeing a false “start/lock” signal. A faulty interlock can also drag down the supply to the controls, which would fit with the display going dead.

2. Inspect the wiring to the door lock Remove the top or front access as appropriate and look for burnt connectors, loose terminals, broken wires, or signs of overheating around the interlock plug. Bosch machines can suffer from heat damage at the lock connections.

3. Look closely at the main PCB/control module If the panel dies only when the lock engages, the board may have a failed relay, power supply fault, or damaged track associated with the lock circuit. Check for scorching, failed solder joints, or obvious component damage.

4. Consider whether any button is stuck Less likely from your description, but if a start/pause or option button is shorting, it can cause odd behaviour. Try checking that all buttons feel normal and are not jammed in.

5. Do not force the machine to run Manually overriding the lock repeatedly is best avoided until the cause is found, as it can damage the lock or create a safety issue.

On balance, I would suspect the door interlock or the control board, with the interlock being the first thing to test or substitute. If you are not confident with live circuit diagnosis, it would be best to get a qualified appliance engineer in, especially for any mains electrical work.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
