Hotpoint Washer Excessive Vibration
Hi.
This is my first post so be kind
I know there are a lot of posts already with the phrase 'my machine is noisy' but the symptoms I have don't seem to fit the 'normal' reasons.
On any spin the drum is vibrating A LOT. The movement is quite excessive 2cm or so. It looks and sounds massively out of balance.
I have checked the spider, changed the dampers, checked the top weight is secure (can't get to the front weight easily but that is my next check). The drum spins freely, no grinding or other mechanical noises to imply worn bearings. Checked for play in the drum by lifting the drum from inside and feeling for movement.
It's not that complicated. What am i missing!?!
Regards,

Hi, and welcome. If the drum really is moving that much on spin after you’ve already checked the usual suspects, you’re right to look beyond the standard “noisy machine” causes.
Before inspecting anything internal, isolate the washer from the mains.
1. Check the suspension springs at the top Make sure both drum support springs are intact, seated properly, and haven’t stretched or partly pulled through their mounts. A weak or displaced spring can cause dramatic tub movement even with new dampers fitted.
2. Re-check all concrete weights The top one may be tight, but the front weight is still worth checking. Look for cracked concrete, loose bolts, or wear around the mounting holes. A weight can seem secure but still shift under spin.
3. Confirm the new dampers are correct Wrong-rated dampers, poor-quality pattern parts, or stiff/loose fitting pins can all give poor control. Compare both sides for equal resistance and proper fitment.
4. Check the tub outer drum mountings Inspect where the dampers and springs attach to the tub and cabinet. Cracks in the plastic outer tub or elongated mounting holes can let the whole assembly move excessively.
5. Look closely at the motor and pulley area A loose drum pulley, worn pulley mount, or badly worn motor brushes/commutator can sometimes make spin unstable rather than just noisy. Also check the belt condition and tension.
6. Consider the pressure system and spin behaviour If it tumbles up to speed badly or seems to “give up” balancing, check the pressure chamber and hose for sludge. Some Hotpoint machines can mismanage spin if the level sensing is inconsistent.
If all that checks out, the fault may be a cracked tub, weakened spring, or control issue affecting spin balance. For mains-related testing, or if you’re unsure, it’s best to get a qualified appliance engineer in.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
