Help! Something stuck in my hole! (not a joke!)
Hi, I've got a new LG washer/dryer. Yesterday I did a wash and the brass end (is it called an aglet?) of the drawstring on one of my hoodies managed to worm it's way through one of the drain holes in the back of the drum. At the end of the wash, I tried to pull it back through by pulling on the drawstring but it wouldn't budge - the string eventually pulled free from the aglet. I've tried pulling it back through with a pair of pliers but it's going nowhere (or maybe I'm just too weak...) The other end of the drawstring with aglet still attached will slide through the hole with no friction at all, so presumably the rogue aglet was been bent and distorted in some way - it's not wedged in tight, there's some play there but it doesn't want to come back through.
The offending aglet is an inch long and 3/16th of an inch in diameter. I might be able to snip off the half I can get hold off and let the other half drop through, but is this likely to wash through to the lint filter or just jam up my drum?

Hello. Don't risk using the washing machine until it's retrieved. With washing machines now having plastic outer drums any metal object stuck inside the washing machine can damage the outer drum rendering it scrap in most cases. Try this article How to remove something stuck in washing machine

Hi Andy, a friend of mine came round to have a look before I splashed the cash on getting an engineer out. He managed to pull the offending item back through with his mole grips - it's all in the wrist action apparently! Did a wash and didn't sound like any harm had been done, although I can imagine that the offending brass thingy might have scoured the back of the drum casing somewhat. Hopefully will never find out.

How big is this missing bit? If it's quite small the risk of damage would be small. It could just find its way into the pump filter. Have you checked the filter? If you go through the link I put up there are tips such as tipping the washing machine from side to side to hopefully get an object to drop into the sump hose.

Hi Andy, many thanks for that superfast response! I'll read through your article now, though I guess in the end I might have to bite the bullet and get LGs engineer out to take the damn thing apart. Bloody stupid hoodie!!
