Help! My washing machine switches to "end" seconds after selecting any cycle. The pump runs (no water is now left in the machine) and then that's it..... nothing. I've changed the brushes, checked all pipes for blockages, checked the heater coil. I'm thinking the mother board is knackered is there anything else I can try please

It does sound as if the machine is aborting the programme very early, but I wouldn’t condemn the main PCB just yet. On many Servis machines this can happen if the control isn’t seeing one of the basic “start conditions” it expects.
Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.
1. Check the door lock carefully If the control doesn’t get a proper “door locked” confirmation, it can drain and then end the cycle. Make sure the door closes firmly and the catch isn’t loose or cracked. If possible, watch whether the lock engages normally and whether the door locked light behaves differently than usual.
2. Check the pressure system Even if it’s pumping out, a blocked or faulty pressure chamber/pressure switch can tell the PCB the water level is wrong. Check the thin pressure hose from the tub to the pressure switch for splits, soap residue, or blockage. Also check the chamber connection at the tub end for gunge.
3. Check water fill is actually being called for After selecting a cycle, listen carefully: does it try to open the inlet valve at all, or go straight to drain then end? If there’s no fill attempt, that points more towards door lock, pressure switch, or control issues. Also make sure the taps are on and inlet filters aren’t blocked.
4. Recheck the motor side Although you’ve changed the brushes, make sure they are fitted correctly, moving freely, and bedded onto the commutator properly. Also inspect the motor plug and wiring for burning or loose connections. A failed tacho coil can also cause odd aborting on some models.
5. Inspect wiring and connectors Check plugs to the pump, pressure switch, door interlock, motor and PCB for corrosion, burning or loose pins. Servis machines can suffer from poor connections as much as failed boards.
6. PCB last, not first If all the above check out, then yes, the PCB becomes more likely. But it’s best to rule out lock, pressure and wiring faults first, because a board is expensive and often misdiagnosed.
If you can say whether it fills at all, and whether the door definitely locks, that would narrow it down a lot. If internal electrical testing is needed, it’s best handled by a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
