It does sound as if the machine is seeing the door as “not locked”, but that doesn’t always mean the door simply isn’t shut properly. On these, repeated pausing can sometimes leave the door interlock or control out of sequence.
Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.
1. Do a full reset Unplug it for 10–15 minutes, then plug back in and try a fresh programme from the start. Don’t use pause initially. Sometimes the control board will clear the fault after a proper power reset.
2. Check the door closes firmly Open and close the door firmly. Make sure no washing is trapped in the seal and that the door is not drooping. If the hinge is slightly loose or the catch is misaligned, the interlock may not engage even though the door seems shut.
3. Inspect the door catch Look at the plastic striker on the door itself. If it is cracked, loose, or worn, the lock may not detect it properly.
4. Listen for the lock Start a programme and listen carefully. You should normally hear a definite click from the door lock within a few seconds. - Clicks but still shows Error 1: possible faulty interlock switch or wiring - No click: possible failed door lock, wiring fault, or control issue
5. Check for obvious wiring issues If you are competent to remove the top/front access panel, inspect the wiring to the door interlock for loose or burnt connections.
If the catch is sound and a reset doesn’t help, the most likely fault is the door interlock assembly itself, though wiring or the control board are also possible. For mains electrical testing or replacement of internal parts, it’s best to use a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
