Hi

please can someone help, I am trying to find out what component Q14 is on the above control pcb of an indesit wixxe 127 machine, I don’t have a schematic, don’t know if Q14 is a triac or transistor because it’s completely shot. The pcb number is 0912150097701

Q14 is near J4 at the rear of the pcb where the plug for the door lock plugs in. Thank you

Hi,

On these Indesit/Hotpoint boards, a designator starting with "Q" is often a transistor or triac, and when it sits close to the door interlock connector it is very commonly the switching device that drives the door lock circuit. However, without the exact board layout or a clear photo, I would not want to guess the exact part number.

A few checks to narrow it down:

1. Isolate the machine from the mains before removing or inspecting the PCB. 2. Look very closely at the PCB tracks from Q14: - If one side goes to the door lock connector J4 and another to a small driver resistor/opto circuit, it is quite likely a triac. - If it feeds a relay coil or low-voltage logic path, it may be a transistor instead. 3. Check the package style: - Small 3-pin SMD device near a mains load on Indesit boards is often a triac used for a valve, pump, or door lock output. 4. Inspect the surrounding parts: - Burnt gate resistor, track damage, or a failed door interlock can take the driver device out with it. - If the door lock itself has gone short circuit, simply replacing Q14 may result in it failing again. 5. If possible, post clear close-up photos of both sides of the PCB around Q14 and J4. That usually allows the part type to be identified from the track layout.

If the board damage is severe, board repair may be uneconomical unless done by a PCB repair specialist. For any live electrical testing or board-level repair, use a qualified engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
