Hi

Looking for somehelp please? ?

Ive changed the brushes on the motor of the machine above, as it had been working normally till they failed.

The motor now works fine, but I gota E04 error code.

It is draining and spinning.

This now seams to of cleared but it keeps repeating its cycle

It says 42 mins left then changes to 1 hour 2 mins.

Happens on all cycles

Ive not changed anything bar the brushes.

TIA for any help.

Hi, if the motor brushes were worn right down, it’s quite common for the control to behave oddly for a while afterwards, but the repeating programme time usually points to the machine not seeing one of the conditions needed to move on properly rather than the brushes themselves.

A few checks to narrow it down:

1. Reset and test simply Turn it off, isolate from the mains for 10–15 minutes, then try a short wash only cycle with no drying selected. - If wash cycles finish normally, but washer-dryer cycles keep extending, the fault is likely on the drying side. - If even wash-only cycles repeat or stall, look at sensing, heating or motor feedback issues.

2. Check the new brushes carefully Make sure they are the correct type, fitted the right way round, moving freely in their holders, and bedded onto the commutator properly. Poor contact can cause erratic motor feedback to the PCB.

3. Inspect the motor plug and wiring Since the motor has been disturbed, check the connector is fully home and no wires to the motor, tacho coil, or heater circuit have been pulled or trapped. A weak tacho signal can confuse programme timing.

4. Look for heating problems On wash cycles, is the water heating? On drying cycles, is there any heat at all? Machines often keep extending time if they are waiting to reach temperature.

5. Check airflow/condensing system if the issue is mainly on drying Blockages in the condenser ducting, fan system, or moisture sensing can cause endless drying times.

If it still happens, the next step is proper checks on heater, NTC sensor, tacho and control sensing. Please isolate it from the mains before inspecting internal parts, and use a qualified engineer for any mains or more in-depth electrical testing.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
