Bosch avantixx washer dryer freezing
Hi lads,
I've a bosch advantixx washer dryer that is freezing only when drying. It happens after the drain pump runs during the cycle. I thought it might be the pump which I've replaced but no joy. It happens more often than not but works occasionally. Any ideas?

Hi,
If it only freezes during the drying part, and it tends to happen just after the drain pump runs, the pump itself may not be the real cause. On washer dryers, the control is often monitoring water removal, temperature and airflow during drying, so a blockage, sensor issue or control fault can trigger a lock-up at that point.
Before checking anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains. If it turns out to be a mains/control-board fault, use a qualified appliance engineer.
1. Check the drain path fully Even though the pump has been replaced, check the pump filter housing, sump hose, drain hose and standpipe for partial blockages. A washer dryer can be much fussier in drying mode because it uses water during condensation drying.
2. Check for poor airflow or fluff build-up If this is a condenser washer dryer, fluff can build up in the condenser ducting, fan housing or chamber. Restricted airflow can cause overheating or abnormal drying behaviour, sometimes just as the machine changes stage and drains water.
3. Inspect the pressure system A partially blocked pressure chamber or pressure switch hose can give false “water level” readings. That can confuse the machine when it drains during drying and make it stall or freeze.
4. Check heating circuit parts Thermistors, thermostats and heater issues can also cause drying-only faults. If the dryer is getting too hot, not heating properly, or cutting out intermittently, that is worth testing.
5. Consider the control board If it always freezes at the same point, especially after the pump is energised, the control board or a dry joint/relay fault is possible rather than the pump itself.
If you can add the full E-Nr model number from the rating plate, it may help narrow down the likely drying system used on your Bosch.

Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
