Miele washer/dryer WT2780 display steaming up after engineer visit and more
(As Miele washer/dryers are rumoured to all use the same basic drying system, probably applies to other models too...)
Had a Miele engineer come under warranty to replace pretty much all of the hot air ducting and suds container etc. etc. Seemed like a good guy, though did get distracted at one point.
Anyways, on the few times I use the drying function, I noticed the following:
- dryness levels seem reduced (items not coming out bone dry)
- there is a heck of a lot of hot vapour coming out of the (closed) detergent drawer
- the corners of the LCD display have started steaming up
An amateur guess would be that maybe some part of the heating system is either not sealed properly or is a*se about face... but asking here as I don't fancy calling them out under warranty but being charged due to it 'being normal'
Think the guy also updated the machine's software via the IR Link.
Thanks.

What you’re describing does not sound “normal”, especially if it started straight after Miele replaced the drying ducting, suds container and related parts. On these washer/dryers, poor drying plus steam escaping into the fascia/detergent drawer area usually points to air or steam not being routed correctly, or a seal/duct not fitted properly.
Before inspecting anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains.
1. **Treat this as likely related to the recent repair** If it dried properly before, and now you have reduced dryness, vapour from the drawer and LCD misting, that strongly suggests something was disturbed or reassembled incorrectly.
2. **Check for obvious misfitting externally** Look at the detergent drawer fit, and whether it closes fully and sits square. Also check around the top/front panel for any obvious gaps or signs of warm moist air escaping during drying.
3. **Run a short drying test** Try a small load and note: - whether the fan/heating sounds normal - when the vapour starts - whether water is being collected/pumped away as expected This helps show whether it is a general airflow/condensing problem or a direct leak into the cabinet/fascia.
4. **Do not keep using the dryer function heavily** Steam reaching the display area is not ideal and could eventually damage controls, wiring or the fascia.
5. **Call Miele back under warranty** Be very clear that the fault appeared only after their visit. Mention the three symptoms together, as they all support a ducting/seal/airflow assembly issue rather than “normal operation”.
I would not accept this as normal behaviour. If internal ducting, heater housing, seals or airflow parts need checking, that’s a job for Miele or another qualified engineer, especially on a mains appliance. WhitegoodsHelp AI
Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
