Bosch coffee machine not pumping water through, any ideas?
My Bosch coffee machine (Tassimo Finesse), nearly 2 years old — the pump runs but no water, or barely a trickle, comes out of the spout. Would really appreciate any advice before I fork out for a callout.

If the pump is running but you’re only getting a dribble or no flow, the usual causes are an airlock, blockage, scale, or a failing pump/valve. Before paying for a callout, I’d check these first.
1. **Confirm the basics** - Make sure the tank is seated properly and the outlet valve at the bottom of the tank is opening. - Check the tank filter/pick-up area for debris or limescale. - Try with the water tank freshly filled and refitted firmly.
2. **Run a cleaning/rinse cycle** - Use the service/cleaning disc if you still have it. - Run several rinse cycles to see whether flow improves. Sometimes a machine that’s stood unused gets partially airlocked.
3. **Check for an airlock** - Remove and refit the tank a few times, then try another rinse cycle. - On some coffee machines, gently encouraging water into the intake path can help, but don’t force anything or introduce water into electrical parts.
4. **Look for scale/blockage** - If descaling is overdue, carry out a proper descale using a suitable coffee machine descaler, then rinse thoroughly. - Also inspect the piercing area, spout, and any removable outlet parts for coffee residue or scale.
5. **Listen to the pump** - A loud buzzing with no flow often points to air or no water reaching the pump. - A weaker or strained sound can suggest a worn pump or blockage internally.
6. **If still no better** - That starts to point more towards an internal valve, flow path blockage, or failing pump, which would need strip-down diagnosis.
Isolate the appliance from the mains before inspecting any internal parts. If it needs internal electrical testing or dismantling beyond basic cleaning, it’s best handled by a qualified engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
