Hotpoint washer dryer showing an F code and won't drain
Bought a Hotpoint washer dryer (BI WDHG 75148) 6 months ago and it shows an F code and won't drain the water away. Really hoping it's a cheap fix.

If it’s showing an “F” fault and leaving water in the drum, the machine is most often reporting a drain problem rather than a simple random electronic fault. On a Hotpoint washer dryer that’s only 6 months old, I’d also be thinking warranty first before stripping too much down.
Try these checks:
1. Check the drain filter If your model has a user-access filter flap, isolate the appliance from the mains first, then open it carefully with towels/tray ready because water will come out. Remove lint, coins, hair grips or anything blocking the pump.
2. Check the drain hose Make sure the hose behind the machine isn’t kinked, squashed or pushed too far down the standpipe under the sink. Also check the sink spigot/standpipe for a blockage.
3. Listen to the pump Put it on a drain/spin programme. If you hear the pump humming but no water comes out, there may be a blockage in the pump or hose. If it’s completely silent, the pump, wiring, or control may be at fault.
4. Check for a pump obstruction Small items such as bra wires, buttons or fabric can jam the pump impeller. Only inspect internal parts with the appliance isolated from the mains.
5. Don’t rely on the “F code” alone Hotpoint fault codes can vary by display/version, so the exact code matters. If you can post the full code (for example F05, F11 etc), it helps narrow it down properly.
Because it’s just 6 months old, I’d strongly suggest contacting Hotpoint under warranty before paying for parts. Any mains electrical testing should be left to a qualified engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
