Hotpoint Wdd960 Dryer Problem
I have a hotpoint WDD960 washer dryer.
The dryer no longer dries. It goes through the motions but the washing comes out cold and wet.
I removed the lid and checked what appear to be two thermostats on top of what appears to be the dryer unit. One of them is open circuit the other is short circuit.
I think thermostats should be short circuit if not faulty.
I have added a picture of the dryer viewed from above with the washer lid removed.
The open circuit device is on the far right attached by a brown ( looks pink in the photo) wire.
The short circuit device in the middle attached to a blue wire.
Both devices appear to be held in position by bolts and have just the one centre terminal using the frame of the dryer as the ground.
Can anyone confirm if what I have said is correct, if this is a thermostat and if so where I can get a replacement?
I assume the other (blue) wires go to the element?
Maybe I have this completely wrong. I didnt go as far as disassembling the unit yet!
Can anyone help?

The stat (or toc) shouldn't be open circuit so it's probably the cause of not hearing. However, these devices are supposed to only go if another fault causes overheating. Don't bypass this safety device. You could try replacing it as sometimes they just go for no apparent reason but if the same thing happens you need to find out what else is wrong.

The filter that sits at the back of the machine gets blocked with fluff and crud.
You need to remove the dryer so that you can lift the filter out and clean it.
The filter needs cleaning about every two years.
Once blocked no air can get through the dryer and the heater element over heats.
Thanks.
I finished taking it apart and what I thought was 2 thermostats was in fact the connections to the heating element. The element was open circuit. I have ordered a replacement.
When I removed the element it fell into 2 pieces.
Definitely the problem.
By the way the fan was full of dust and fluff which I removed. Probably that had caused the element to overheat!
