If the food is freezing mainly at the back of the fridge section, the most common causes are either air flow/usage issues or a fault with temperature sensing/control. On a unit only just over a year old, I’d also be thinking about a warranty call if it’s still covered.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains. Any sealed refrigeration or live electrical diagnosis should be left to a qualified engineer.

1. Check how the food is stored Don’t let items touch the back wall. The rear panel can get very cold during normal operation, and anything resting against it may freeze even when the overall temperature setting is correct.

2. Check the temperature setting “Normal” may still be too cold depending on room temperature and load. Try raising the fridge setting slightly if possible, then monitor it for 24 hours.

3. Measure the actual fridge temperature Put a fridge thermometer in a glass of water in the middle shelf area for several hours. You want roughly 3 to 5°C. If it is much lower, that points more towards a control or sensor issue.

4. Check the door seal and door closing A poor seal or door left slightly open can cause long run times and overcooling in parts of the fridge. Make sure the door shuts properly and the seal is clean and gripping all round.

5. Look for a sensor/control fault If the compressor is running too long and the fridge is consistently below temperature, the thermistor/sensor or control board may not be regulating correctly. On a modern AEG, that usually needs proper testing.
