Hi Mick,

On a Hotpoint WF541, a small multi-way plug with several blue wires usually goes onto the **fascia / programme PCB**, but there can be more than one similar connector so it’s worth checking carefully before forcing anything.

1. **Isolate the washer from the mains first.** Remove the top if needed and have a good look at the back of the fascia panel/PCB.

2. **Look for the spare socket on the control board.** The plug will normally only fit one header properly. Check for: - a matching **number of pins** - a **keyed shape** or latch - a printed marking on the PCB such as **J**, **CON**, **PL**, or similar

3. **Check wire length and routing.** The correct plug position is usually the one the loom reaches naturally without stretching or crossing over other wiring.

4. **Look for witness marks.** Dust-free areas, clip marks, or a slight impression on the PCB/socket can show where it was originally fitted.

5. **Compare with photos or diagrams.** If you took any before the job, use those. If not, the wiring diagram is sometimes tucked behind the kick strip, back panel, or inside the top.

6. **Do not guess if there are multiple possible positions.** Putting a fascia plug onto the wrong pins can damage the control board.

If you can upload a clear photo of the loose plug and the back of the fascia PCB, I can help narrow down where it should go. If there’s any doubt, it’s best left to a qualified appliance engineer, especially for live electrical work.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
