Zanussi Zwd1480W Runs For A Few Minutes Then Dies,no Lights Or Display
I got the washing machine a few days ago from a friend, she said it works great, no problems. Got it home, did 3 washes, fine. Then did a 60 min wash, started it, walked off, came into kitchen 20 mins later and it was still saying 60 mins with start button flashing. Started again and watched, after about 3 mins into cycle, the machine turned off, no lights or display, after about 10 mins it came on again at start. I've tried it on every cycle, it does the same thing.
Once it goes off, the only way to get it to come on again, is to unplug from wall, wait a minute, then plug back in.
I've checked filter at bottom, its clear, taken off the back, visually checked all the wires i cant see for any rodent damage or burnt wires.
Any help would be great, thank you.

It does sound more like the machine is losing power or the control is shutting down, rather than a simple blockage. Because it resets after cooling down, an overheating component, bad connection, or power supply fault is quite likely.
Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.
1. Check the wall socket and plug Try it in a different known-good socket if possible, with no extension lead. Also inspect the plug top for signs of heat damage or a loose fuse holder.
2. Check the mains lead where it enters the machine Flex the cable gently and inspect for damage, especially if it may have been trapped in transit. A broken conductor can cause intermittent total power loss.
3. Look closely at the mains filter/interference suppressor This is usually where the power cable enters the machine. On Zanussi/Electrolux machines these can fail and cut power completely. Check for burning, cracking, swelling, or overheated terminals.
4. Inspect door lock and wiring A faulty door interlock can stop a cycle, but it would not usually kill all lights. Still worth checking the connector for overheating or loose terminals.
5. Check the main control board area If accessible, look for burnt tracks, scorched connectors, or signs of overheating on the PCB. A failing power supply section on the board can behave exactly like this.
6. Consider what point in the cycle it fails If it consistently dies a few minutes in, note whether that is when it starts heating or tumbling under load. A heater fault, motor issue, or board relay problem could be overloading the control.
If there are no obvious wiring or connector issues, the most likely faults are the mains filter, wiring/connection fault, or the main PCB power supply. If you are not confident with live electrical diagnosis, it would be best to get a qualified appliance engineer to test it properly.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
