Indesit 1100 Won't Spin Led1 And Door Lock (Led5?) Flashing

Hi,

I wonder if someone could help diagnose the problem my machine has just developed. It won't spin. The LED1 is flashing green and continually while at the same time the LED 5 is flashing very fast (red light).

The machine is making a noise but nothing is happening.

Turning it off at the wall and turning it back on again has no effect.

Be grateful for any insight as to what might be the problem.

Thanks

Bob

Hi Bob,

On many older Indesit washers, a flashing wash LED together with the door lock light often points to a motor/drum rotation fault, but it’s not possible to be certain from the lights alone. The “noise but nothing happening” is useful though, and usually means the machine is trying to run but the drum isn’t turning.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains.

1. Check if the drum turns freely by hand Open the door and rotate the drum. It should move smoothly with some resistance. If it feels stiff, jammed, or rough, there may be a seized bearing, trapped item, or motor/drum problem.

2. Check the drive belt Remove the back panel and see if the belt has snapped, come off, or gone loose. If the motor runs but the drum does not, a thrown or broken belt is a common cause.

3. Check the motor carbon brushes If your model has a brushed motor, worn carbon brushes are very common on Indesit machines and can cause no spin, fault lights, and a humming/running sound. If they are very short or sticking, they need replacing as a pair.

4. Check for a full of water / not draining issue If there is water left in the drum, it may refuse to spin. Clean the pump filter and check the drain pump is actually clearing the water.

5. Look for burning smell or loose wiring Especially around the motor and module connections.

If the belt is intact and it still won’t turn, the most likely causes are motor brushes, motor wiring, or the control module. If you’re not confident with electrical checks, it’s best to get a qualified appliance engineer in. Any mains-related testing should be left to a professional.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
