Hi,

Yes, this is a fairly common fill fault on Bosch machines. The water is usually directed to each drawer compartment by the dispenser jets/nozzles and the inlet valve sections opening in different combinations. If it’s only ever going into the pre-wash section, the most likely causes are either a dispenser blockage or a problem with one part of the inlet valve system.

Try these checks:

1. Pull the soap drawer right out and clean it thoroughly - Wash out any compacted detergent and conditioner residue. - Clean the roof of the dispenser housing as well, especially the little water holes/jets above the drawer.

2. Check the drawer is sitting correctly - Make sure it goes fully back in and isn’t twisted or sticking. - If the drawer insert is misfitted, water can appear to go into the wrong compartment.

3. Run a fill and watch carefully - See whether the water is physically only coming from the pre-wash jet, or whether it is overflowing/dribbling across internally from a blocked channel.

4. Suspect the inlet valve if cleaning makes no difference - Many Bosch washers use a multi-section water valve. If one solenoid has failed, the machine may only feed one compartment. - In some cases the control system can also be at fault, but the valve is more common.

5. Check for wiring/valve issues only if competent - Isolate the appliance from the mains first before removing the lid or inspecting internal parts. - Look for loose connections to the inlet valve.

If cleaning the dispenser doesn’t cure it, it will likely need proper testing of the inlet valve circuit. For any internal electrical checks, use a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
