Washing Machine Has No Power

Have you tried a completely different wall socket?

This has just happened to our machine. We've been away for the weekend but used it fine 5 days ago.... very confused. Ours is still in warranty but I dont know whether it's too soon to call the manufacturers...?

Hello Cinders. If it happens again try a completely different wall socket. It's possible for a wall socket to have a poor connection inside that can cause intermittent faults like you described. It's not common for a washing machine to have a fault that causes it to be dead one minute but working the next but any electrical fault that involves a very poor connection could potentially cause intermittent cutting out. Keep a close eye on it and if this display starts flickering, or it starts to intermittently not work it needs to get checked out properly but like I said check the wall socket 1st by trying a different one if possible.

Hi - I have another twist on this. Last night, I went to put a wash on only to discover no lights on the panel! Machine was dead! I had used it two days prior, so was very confused. I checked the mains to see if the sockets switch had tripped, but all fine. I switched the sockets switch off and back on, as well as the kitchen sockets switch.. just to eliminate all possible causes. Still dead. I changed the plug fuse, still nothing. I checked the door had closed properly but this would still not account for no panel lights. I checked everything I could think of and still nothing.

I put a report in to the agency to call an engineer in the morning and stayed home to get it sorted.

Woke up this morning, turned the dial to see if anything had changed.. low and behold... the lights came on and the machine Is working!! I am so confused as this has never happened before! I wondered whether there had been some sort of electricity outage but I had used other appliances and lights in the evening so that is not a possibility...

ANY ideas what could have happened here? I feel the agency might feel it was user error but I know it was not and am quite savvy when it comes to fixing things, but this was a first for me!

Hi, I have done lots of research, asked associates and cross referenced information that I have received. I noted you said there is NO lights at all? When there are lights you may check other areas as previously mentioned, but no one seems to be registering the big clue you have given them...."NO lights as if not plugged in at all". As a process of elimination, we check the wall socket...you did that. We then check the plug wiring and fuse....you did that. We then unplug the machine and remove the necessary screws to remove the lid and gain access inside. See where the power lead passes through the washing machine rear wall to the inside? You will notice a brown wire=Live, blue wire=Neutral, and a green & yellow wire= the Earth or Ground. See what these wires are connected to? This is a filter made up of Capacitors. It may be electronic coponents soldered together under a plastic guard or a metallc silver coloured cylinder. WARNING: even though the machine is unplugged and no power present, theses Capacitors store HIGH ELECTRICAL CHARGE and can cause serious injury or death via electric shock or even electrocution!!!!! If these Capacitors are blown, or damaged in anyway, the machine acts the same as if there is no power there at all. No power, no lights, no operation....DEAD! This filter needs replacing. Consult an engineer as poor knowledge in this repair can KILL or cause serious injury.

No the lights should still come on and display panel should work but it just wouldn't do anything. If the door doesn't lock it could be a problem with the interlock, but if the door does lock and nothing happens it could even be a fault on the motor or heating element on some brands (particularly Indesit and Hotpoint) which is mentioned in one of the articles linked to in the article I first mentioned (the door interlock one under, "Anomalies to be aware of").

no I will check that out, would that mean that no lights come on tho? it literally just looks not plugged in as there are no lights or noises at all.
