Indesit Iwde126 Overheating
Hi,
My washer/dryer (Indesit IWDE126) overheated last Friday night - was on a 40 degree wash and just started steaming. I turned it off pretty quickly, but it had got pretty hot (I couldn't handle the clothes).
It now starts ok, but stops mid-cycle with the 2 right-hand most lights (extra rinse and spin selector) flashing.
Where do I start bug chasing?

[ I've seen something saying that these lights add up to error code 3 =relates to the NTC the water temperature sensor, check the connections and replace if required. Does that sound right?]
(I've checked the coin catcher, empty;
there doesn't seem to be any lint catcher to clear;
I've run it with the outlet into a bucket to check that was free flowing;
seems to run to completion with a cold wash;
tried the dryer for 15mins last night without problems...)

Hello, none of the things you checked would cause overheating. Overheating is often caused by a fault on the heating element's thermostat (usually an NTC thermistor these days) or main pcb or a connection fault between them. Carefully check to see if there's a loose connection on the NTC and try to see if you can get any readings on it with a continuity test meter. If you can't see anything I'd get an engineer.

In theory, if the thermistor was faulty the software running the wash cycle should abort the program with an error code so modern washing machine's should never over heat. However, anomalies and bad design can mean some faults are not detected by the software plus of course if the problem lies with the main PCB that contains the software it may also fail to defect a fault. I wouldn't try anything else, you've checked the basics which is all I recommend. You might be able to find a local repairman from my affiliates but if not Indesit usually do fixed repairs or have a 5 year parts guarantee although they'll usually charge around £100 labour.

Hi, I've finally had the time to pull out the machine and get a multimeter onto the thermistor - it reads ~24 (kohms?) Which drops to about 12 in warmish water). Looks like the thermistor is OK?
I'm struggling to get the continuity meter onto the wiring but it all looks OK. PCB (assuming it is the unit at the back rear where the wiring harness runs to) has no obvious damage or water ingress.
Anything else to try?
Should I go to Indesit directly or can you recommend someone in Bristol?
