If the machine has started clicking from the programme selector/display area after refitting the inlet hose, the fault may or may not be related to the new hose. It often points to the control trying to start but not getting the condition it expects, usually water fill, power supply, or a control board issue.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.

1. Check the water supply first Make sure the tap is fully on, the new hose is not kinked, and if it’s an AquaStop type hose fitted incorrectly it can stop filling. Also check the little filter mesh in the inlet valve where the hose screws on for blockage.

2. Listen for what happens at start-up When you press start, does it click once repeatedly and do nothing, or does it try to fill? If there is no water entering at all, the inlet valve or supply issue is still most likely.

3. Check the door is locking properly If the door interlock doesn’t engage, some machines just click and won’t proceed. See whether the door locked light comes on or if the door feels locked after pressing start.

4. Check the programme knob/buttons If the clicking is directly from the control panel/programme area, it could be a relay on the main PCB switching repeatedly. That can be caused by a failed board, poor connection, or low supply voltage.

5. Inspect for any water leaks or moisture If water has dripped onto wiring or the control area during hose replacement, leave it disconnected and dry out fully before retrying.

If you can say whether it fills, locks the door, or shows any lights/error pattern, that will narrow it down a lot. If it proves to be the control board, mains wiring, or anything internal electrical, best get a qualified appliance engineer to test it safely.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.

  • AI guidance, not gospel
