My Electrolux washers knob turns fine but the indicator light does not move and it is stuck on my last selection.

If the selector knob turns but the programme light stays on the last setting, the fault is usually in the control interface rather than the knob itself. On this type of Electrolux washer, the most likely causes are the selector knob/shaft not actually driving the switch, a failed rotary encoder/selector switch on the fascia board, or a fault on the user interface/control board.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains.

1. Check the knob itself Remove the knob if it simply pulls off and inspect it for a cracked centre or worn plastic insert. Sometimes the knob turns freely but no longer turns the selector shaft properly.

2. Check whether the shaft is turning the selector With the knob off, try turning the selector spindle carefully by hand. If the light still does not move through programmes, the problem is deeper than the knob.

3. Look for signs of fascia/control issues If buttons also behave oddly, lights are erratic, or the machine only stays on one programme, that points more toward the user interface board or main control rather than the knob.

4. Inspect connections If you are competent to remove the top/control panel, check for loose plugs, corrosion, or damage around the selector assembly and control board.

5. Likely parts Do not order parts blindly. The most likely replaceable items are: - the programme selector knob, if cracked - the selector switch/rotary encoder or user interface board - less commonly, the main control board

If you can share whether the shaft turns with the knob removed, and whether other buttons respond normally, that would narrow it down. For live electrical diagnosis or board replacement, it is best to use a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
