Hotpoint Aquarius WMA40 door fault
Hello, While using my Hotpoint Aquarius WMA40 it made a bang and stopped working. The drum was full of water.
I have drained it and checked all the waste pipes for blocks and changed the fuse. It will now switch on but won't go past the "door locked" stage.
Door locked light flashes and as a result, the machine won't switch on.
I searched for Hotpoint error codes, but wasn't able to find any for this particular model (with six lights).
Any suggestions what I could do to try and find out if the sensor is broken (the part the door hinge closes into) or if this is to do with the handle mechanism?
I've tried putting some WD40 into the mechanism, but without any luck.
Thanks,

Hi,
From your description, the initial “bang” is the important clue. On these Hotpoint/Indesit-built machines, a failed door interlock is very common, but the bang could also have been something else failing that has left the machine stuck at the door-lock stage.
Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.
1. Check the door is actually closing properly Make sure the door catch on the handle isn’t loose, cracked or misaligned. If the handle has broken internally, the latch may not be pushing fully into the interlock even though the door seems shut.
2. Inspect the door interlock The “sensor” you mention is really the door interlock/lock assembly behind the front panel where the door hook enters. If the door locked light is flashing and it won’t start, this lock is a prime suspect. A bang can happen when an interlock fails. Look for signs of heat damage, burning or a loose connection.
3. Don’t rely on WD40 WD40 won’t normally cure this and can contaminate parts. If the interlock has failed electrically, it will need replacing rather than lubricating.
4. Check the wiring to the lock If accessible, inspect the connector and wiring to the interlock for burning or damage. A bad connection here can also cause the flashing lock light.
5. Consider what happened when it stopped full of water If it banged during drain or spin, another component may also have failed. However, if it now won’t get past door locking, the interlock circuit is still the first place to investigate.
If you’re not confident testing or replacing the lock, get a qualified appliance engineer, especially for any mains electrical work.

Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
