Whirlpool Door lock software issue
At the end of any cycle, even several minutes after the End display comes on, the door will not open (door open light does not come on).
To open it I have to switch off then on again.
I have just realised that probably I had the Easy Care button selected, which stops it opening until cancelled! I didn't know what this button/light meant until I looked it up.

It does sound quite possible that this is simply the Easy Care / crease-care option rather than a true door lock fault.
A few sensible checks:
1. Confirm what the option does On many Whirlpool washing machines, Easy Care can keep the laundry moving intermittently or hold the cycle in a “finished but not fully released” state to reduce creasing. That can delay the door release until the option ends or is cancelled.
2. Try a normal wash with no options selected Run a short cycle with Easy Care and any similar finish-delay/anti-crease options turned off. If the door unlocks normally at the end, the machine is probably behaving as designed.
3. Check whether there is a drain delay The door will not release if the machine still thinks there is water inside. If it sits locked and you can hear water, or there is water left in the drum, check the pump filter and drain hose for partial blockage.
4. Allow a couple of minutes after the cycle ends Door interlocks often stay engaged briefly after the heater has been on or while the control is confirming safe conditions.
5. If it still only opens after switching off and back on Then the fault may be with the door interlock, pressure system, or control board logic rather than the Easy Care setting.
Before inspecting anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains. If checks point to the interlock, wiring, control board, or anything electrical, it’s best to use a qualified appliance engineer.
Hopefully you’ve just found the cause, but if it keeps happening with all options off, there may still be a genuine fault.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
