Replacing the flex in a hardwired mains filter

I've got a Hotpoint WD420P, the mains lead has gone faulty so I've done a temporary replacement with replacement flex and a suitably rated chocolate block onto the last couple of inches of good flex. The machine is still out from its space in the kitchen as I'd not be happy leaving that 'bodge' as a permanent repair :)

Unfortunately the filter does not have spade terminals on the incoming side, the flex goes straight in. I had a half-hearted attempt at opening it, is there a trick to getting these open or do I need to spend £30 on a complete filter and mains lead? (eSpares item ES800896).

Thanks for any advice :)

Yes it looks like the mains lead and suppressor come as one part. Another money saving practice. If you use a proper 13 amp connector and fit it well making sure the connection can’t get pulled or fall on the floor where it could get wet I don’t see any reason why is shouldn’t be ok. I’d wrap it in insulation tape too.

After all, the reason these connectors are made is to join two 13 amp cables together. If concerned you can buy really good quality connectors made with hard plastic.

Thanks for your reply Andy. I will take a look at connectors, however since posting I have noticed lots of 2nd hand filters on eBay for around £10 which is much more palatable :)
