Miele W2444 - Removing the drain filter
Hi,
I have Miele W2444 Washing machine that has started showing the Check Drain warning.
I have tried to remove the drain filter with no success! I opened up the little door on the bottom left of the machine, turned the screw cap which let out about a pint or so of water. I continued to turn the screw cap until it came off and was left with just the screw cap. Most of the demonstrations show the drain filter attached to the screw cap. What is left behind the screw cap cannot be pulled out easily and I dont want to pull too hard and break something. I have attached pictures of the screwcap on and off. I guess my question is how do I remove the filter? and should the filter be connected to the cap?

Hello. The pump filter should be all one part. Yours looks like it broken. I would get some pliers and pull the remaining filter out. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t come out. Then check for obstructions and clean it out. You might get away with refitting it and screwing the cap back.

The filter was frozen solid hence my question as I was afraid to just pull on it hard. Using some pliers and twisting finally freed up the filter. It was basically frozen in there with limescale. Its out now I have cleaned up as much limescale as I can and dug out lumps that were caked onto the inlet pipe probably narrowing the pipe by half.
New filter ordered for good measure and hopefully, the machine should be up and working when it arrived. Fingers crossed.

I'm not sure whether to start a new thread or not but since replacing the filter I now have several warnings,
1. When I start a cycle, about 15 seconds or so into the main wash the check inlet light starts flashing. After about 10 seconds or so the light stops flashing. The cycle continues....
2. At the end of the wash it stops with the check drain and check inlet lights both flashing. I think it stops before the spin cycle but could be earlier as I was not watching at this stage. The spin cycle has not happened as clothes are still very wet. Its possible that there was no rinse either but the water has drained.
I have cleaned the inlet filter to the Miele inlet safety hose and no change.
Any suggestions?

Sorry I did not get a notification about this reply. If a new fault has been introduced after disturbing the washing machine the chances are that the checking that light means that no water is getting into the washing machine. This is probably due to a kinked hose, or something overlooked like the tap was turned off but not turn back on. However, if the tap was turned off and back on them with some taps it could be that it didn't come back on. Sorry for reopening an old topic but found the original thread on Google and it's exactly my problem so thought I would post in here! Like the original post when I unscrew it's just the lid that comes off and not the bit underneath so not sure what I should do now??
Hello there. You should just need to unscrew the filter enough so that you can pull it out. Unscrew to release it then pull it out. As possible but if you unscrew it too much you will unscrew the two halves of the filter. If the filter is broken use pliers to retrieve the other part as I suggested to the original post in my first reply. The part that is left inside is not likely to be screwed or fixed in, in any way it's just a push fit.
