Hotpoint won't spin on full load
I thought it was the brushes, but on my model the brushes are integral with the motor and I was told if it was the motor then it wouldn't be spinning properly at all! Well it dose spin but with only a few items at a time if I leave it, it just keeps refilling and emptying and sloshing around for hours!!!! Is there some kind of sensor in the machine that may have gone? Any help would be fab as I don't have the money to buy a new machine at the moment!

When the carbon brushes fail the motor usually stops running altogether. However, prior to that you can experience reduced performance from the motor. It is perfectly possible for carbon brushes to cause a motor to spin okay without any washing inside, or with a very light load, but not with a full load. If this is the case though you should be able to hear that the motor does not sound right. It should be making crackling sounds. Essentially the motor would be sparking excessively.
So if you observe the motor and listen carefully when it is spinning if it is making crackling grating sounds and is visibly sparking quite excessively then the motor is definitely suffering a problem.
Having said all that I am assuming that when you use the word spin you are referring to the actual spin cycle and not just rotation.

ok thank you for your help, the machine finally gave me a error code of F05 so I checked the filter and now it works fine spinning as before, it had not occurred to me to check that.
If the load isn't well balanced, washing machines will often refuse to go into top speed. If there is no sound of anything being wrong but it just sometimes doesn't do the full top spin it could just be the out of balance system restricting spin and there is no fault. Check this article Loading a washing machine
If you don't think it's related to out of balanced loads it could be a slack drive belt though that's rare these days. If a belt was quite slack it could slip with heavy loads in. It would have to be quite obviously loose though. You would be able to observe this though from the back with the back panel off (if it comes off). Other than that you would need an engineer to diagnose the fault. It's not something you can start swapping parts out with.

Hi Andy I have read your article on spin cycles but I can't see how to fix the problem? What part I need? and where to get it from? ETC. If this is a fixable issue I would like to give fixing it a go.
Thank you Andy for your reply, it is definitely doing a full 1600 spin and the clothes are coming out well spun. It just docent seem to like to do a 1600 spin or infant any spin when it has more than half a load in? Also can't seem to hear any more noise from it that usual I heard a grinding the other day but that sounded like the bearings?
By the way it is a hotpoint WUMD 962 GUK 9kg load
