Hi my HVL 211 washer has rabidly flashing ON-OFF/DOOR LOCKED Led and Extra Rinse Led rapidly flashing. Manual says need technical assistance. Have tried selecting program and it just spins then stops. It did also trip out my electric.

Any advice would be great.

Hi, if it has tripped the electrics and now only flashes LEDs and won’t start properly, I’d be thinking less about a simple programme fault and more about an electrical component fault. On many Hoover/Candy-derived machines, a pair of flashing LEDs is just a way of saying “stored fault”, but the exact cause needs narrowing down.

1. Isolate it from the mains first. If it tripped the supply, do not keep retrying it until you’ve checked for obvious signs of trouble.

2. Check for water leaks underneath or around the door seal, soap drawer and filter area. A leak onto wiring or components can trip the electrics and cause odd flashing faults.

3. Inspect the mains plug and lead for damage or signs of overheating. If the plug, socket or cable looks burnt or loose, stop there.

4. Try draining it. If there is water left inside, check the pump filter for blockage (coins, hair grips etc). A blocked pump can cause it to stall and flash faults, although it would not usually trip the electrics on its own unless the pump is failing electrically.

5. Because it “just spins then stops”, the motor, wiring, suppressor/filter, heater or door interlock are all possible suspects. A heater fault to earth is especially common for tripping the electrics once the machine starts a cycle.

6. If it trips again as soon as you power or start it, it really needs proper insulation and component testing with a meter.

Given the tripping issue, I would recommend a qualified appliance engineer rather than more trial and error. Please isolate from the mains before removing any panels or inspecting internal parts, and leave any mains-related repairs to a professional.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
