Probably a dumb question ...
I have a hotpoint washing machine
Its about 8 years old .
Dont want to get rid of it however might be best option as more economical.....
Model aqxgd169pm.
5 years old had the drum changed .
Now its developed a fault where by on spin cycle with clothes in the machine it sounds like there are bricks bouncing around inside the drum.
But it doesnt do it with no clothes in the machine.
So i thought it was the motor, so i changed the motor and drive belt.
It was ok for a couple of weeks and now its started doing the same noise.
So i suspect its either a faulty motor doubtfull, the wrong motor, doubt that
Or most likely the drum bearings have gone in the machine.
Cost of a new drum is over £140 so is it worth fixing it or scrap the machine as some thing else might fail in it ?
Shame i have just bought a new drive motor and belt that i am going to be stuck with and wasted £70.00 on them parts .
Thoughts welcome .

It sounds like a possible loose drum weight. If it is drum bearings you should still find it noisy on spin with no washing in, just a bit less noisy. If it sounds normal with no laundry inside it's likely to be the weight of laundry moving about causing the noise - hence the drum wight suspicion. Disconnect it from the mains and take off the lid. Then shake the drum around vigorously and bounce it about to see if you can recreate some of the noise.

Hi all.
Just following on with this on going issue with this washing machine.
Fit new genuine hotpoint plastic drum paddles.
Now two of the paddles have broken off again and the noise is back.
Why or what would cause this plastic drum paddles to break off ?
They have not lasted long .
Not impressed .
Any advise appreciated
Thanks for the update. Your description of it sounding like bricks made me think of much heavier sounds than what I would expect loose drum paddles to produce. The funny thing as well is that I would have expected that with laundry in, the weight of the laundry combined with the centrifugal force pressing them against the paddles would have held them firmly in place, and conversely, with no laundry inside the paddles would be free to rattle. So strange one, but hopefully now fixed.

Well after some more checking . I think i have found the problem.
The little plastic paddles inside the drum are loose , two have broken retaining lugs and rattle about when you try and move them.
This is the source of the banging noise.
Well i have changed the motor so can only assune after 8 years of service life it was getting worn out any way with the belt so no harm in that.
3 plastic paddles in the finnish and its fine i think.
Drum bearings can sound worse when a load is inside, but it's unusual for it to sound perfectly ok without a load if the bearings are gone.

I have a look at the weights again inside the machine.
I did check the top one and that was tight but not the side one.
I was just assuming since there is no weight in the machine there would be no load on the bearings . Once loaded there is weight and then the noise.
It just sounds like bricks bouncings inside the machine or like the belt has torn and its catching on the machine when on full spin cycle.
