Hotpoint wt540 not finishing wash
Hello, I have the above machine. It keeps stopping ‘mid wash’, with two flashing lights (numbers 2 and 4) and the start button rapidly flashing. Various sources say this is fault 10, which indicates a pressure valve problem. I have changed that, and blown down the pipe to check for blockages. All to no avail. Has anyone got any other ideas?

Is the washing machine designed to lock the door if water is inside? Most aren't these days, but if it was then a blocked pressure system could stop the door opening even when unplugged as there would be a physical system preventing it. Such a (pneumatic) door lock would normally have a plastic or rubber tube attached to it though.
Hotpoint lights 2 and 4 flashing indicates "pressure switch stuck on full" but that's on models beginning with WF, WD and WIDL. I can't guarantee it has the same meaning for a WT model so you should be careful about assuming it's definitely the fault. If it was, it means the pressure switch is stuck in the on position. This would make the washing machine think there was still water inside. If the water has been pumped away OK this is usually caused by a faulty pressure switch or a blockage in the pressure system - but you appear to have discounted those things.

Thanks for the quick and comprehensive reply. The machine is probably 10 years old, maybe a bit more, although in its early life it was barely used. There is water in the bottom of it now, so I guess it does not lock under those conditions (I had assumed that the because the program hadn’t finished, the door remained locked, although I expected that turning off at the wall would re-set that - it didn’t.

Oh, forgot to say it also leaves the door locked, so you can’t get anything out. Turning off at wall doesn’t release it either. Sometimes, ‘drain’ will compete it’s cycle, and the the door releases.
