Hi guys,

I have a Whirlpool 6th sense InfiniteCare 1400 Rpm washing machine.

When i try to start a program, i hear a clicking sound from the bottom and the program does not start. It does not even get the water in (input water valve is open though).

You can see the problem here (watch with sound please)

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi,

A repeated click from the bottom with no fill often means the machine is trying to start but one of the first safety or power checks is failing. On many Whirlpool machines the usual suspects are the door interlock, drain pump/jam, mains filter wiring, or the main control board not driving the fill valve properly.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains.

1. Check the door lock first Make sure the door is fully closing and locking. When you press start, do you get a definite locked-door indication? If the interlock is faulty, the machine can just click and do nothing else.

2. Check for water fill being requested Start a wash and listen near the soap drawer. If there is no humming from the inlet valve at all, the machine may not be getting as far as the fill stage. If there is a hum but no water, check the inlet hose filter and valve.

3. Inspect the drain pump/filter Some machines will not begin properly if they think there is a drain issue. Check the pump filter for coins, pins, debris, or a jammed impeller. A pump trying to run can sound like a click from low down.

4. Look underneath for obvious faults If safe to access, check for loose connectors, burning, or signs of water leakage onto wiring/components near the base.

5. Control board or wiring fault If the clicking is from a relay on the board and nothing else happens, the main PCB or a connected load may be at fault. That needs proper electrical testing.

If you can identify exactly where the click is coming from, that will narrow it down a lot. If it needs live electrical checks, it is best left to a qualified engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
