Indesit issue
Hi there,
We have an Indesit Intex washing machine, loaded the machine as normal, closed the door and pressed start but nothing happened, the door was still locked after 10 mins of waiting then all but 2 if the lights started flashing and the machine sounded like it was trying to fill or drain. The only way to open the door is to unplug the machine and wait for the door to unlock, if left closed and then plugged back in the door will then lock itself without trying to start the program. I have had a look through previous fixes but can't find the answer to this, any ideas please?

Hi,
That symptom on an Indesit usually points to either a door interlock/lock sensing fault, a drainage issue, or a control fault rather than one simple “reset” cure. The flashing lights are the machine’s way of showing a fault, but without the exact light pattern it’s hard to be certain.
Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.
1. Check the drain side first If the machine thinks there is water in it, it may lock the door and refuse to start properly. Clean the pump filter, check the drain hose for a blockage/kink, and listen whether the pump is just humming or actually moving water.
2. Inspect the door and lock area Make sure the door closes firmly and the catch isn’t loose, cracked or misaligned. On Indesit machines, a faulty door interlock is very common. If it locks but the machine doesn’t recognise it properly, it can just sit there or flash lights.
3. Try a reset Unplug it for 10-15 minutes, then reconnect and try a short rinse/spin or drain programme with the drum empty.
4. Note exactly which lights flash On many Indesit models the combination of flashing LEDs helps identify the fault. If you can list which two lights stay on and which flash, that can narrow it down.
5. Consider the pressure system/control board If the pump and door lock seem fine, the pressure switch, wiring, or main PCB may be at fault.
If you’re not confident testing live circuits or replacing parts, it’s best to get a qualified appliance engineer in. Any mains-related checks should be left to a professional.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
