Samsung Defaults to draining
Power on washer, push cycle and everything seems normal. Once you push start, defaults to draining. Pause button will not work or any other button other than power off. Main PCB and mems sensor have been replaced. This is a topload WA50K8600AV/AA

I don't work on top loaders but most modern washing machines which may include top loaders start off a wash cycle by energising the pump to try and get rid of any water that may have been left behind after the last wash cycle.
Then after several seconds of pumping a washing machine will energise the water valve and start to take water in. If the water was turned off, or there is no water in the pipes, all the valve had become faulty then the washing machine would potentially stick at this point. So one possibility is a problem with water not been taken in. However, if you're top loader works differently may not be anything to do with this. It's also normal for a washing machine that can't take any water in to actually produce some sort of error code. In fact almost every fault that can occur on a washing machine should produce an error code these days. Without an error code it is extra difficult to try and fix.

I would expect the lid lock switch to cut power completely but I’m not familiar with top loaders. It’s possible that it just cuts the motor but I wouldn’t expect it to drain the machine.

Would a faulty lid lock switch cause this issue? It locks the door, but maybe it also thinks that it was opened and therefore empties the water for safety.
All cycles do the same thing including the spin cycle. Pump engages. AlI can manually introduce water with the pre wash dish. I can also get the washer to start it's cycle and introduce water for a short time before it kicks the pump on. But only rarely. Beyond frustrated! 3 technicians have been stumped that have looked at it.
That's not good. Intermittent faults can be very difficult to find. Especially these days as most engineers are under so much time-pressure they rarely do anything if they can't see anything straight away. What does it do on a spin only cycle?

Hi. Your initial description said it only engaged the pump when you press start so I assumed it didn’t take any water in. If it is taking water in that’s a different fault.

Water entry is not a problem. Something is causing the pump to engage. After the pump stops, the washer just sits with the time left on the display. It will stay that way until I turn the power off.
