Hey! So my indesit washing machine has been Working fine but tonight has stopped working.

I've cleaned out the filter and the waste pipe but still nothing.

I've turned it on an off at the socket.

Basically when I choose a cycle and press start the door lock light flashes and beeps 3 times then nothing happens.....

Any ideas?!?!

Thanks

If the machine powers up but won’t actually begin a programme, and the door lock light flashes with 3 beeps, the most common causes are the door not being recognised as locked, a drainage issue still being detected, or a control fault. Without the exact model it’s hard to be certain, but these checks should help narrow it down.

1. Check the door is closing properly Open and firmly re-close the door. Look for anything trapped in the seal, and check the door hook isn’t loose, cracked or misaligned. If the hook doesn’t enter the lock cleanly, the machine won’t start.

2. Try a drain/spin or rinse cycle If it has water left inside, the machine may refuse to start a normal wash. Try selecting drain or spin only. If it just beeps again, that points more towards the door interlock or control not seeing the lock signal.

3. Inspect the filter area again Even if the filter looks clean, check the pump impeller behind it turns freely and isn’t jammed by a coin, pin or hair grip. Also make sure the drain hose isn’t kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe.

4. Listen for the door lock When you press start, you should normally hear a definite click from the interlock. If the light flashes but there’s no proper locking sound, the door interlock is a prime suspect.

5. Try a reset Turn off at the mains for 10-15 minutes, then try a short programme again.

Important: isolate the appliance from the mains before inspecting any internal parts. If the door lock/interlock, wiring, or control board needs testing, it’s best handled by a qualified engineer, as this involves live electrical components.

If you can post the full model number from the rating plate, I can narrow it down further.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
