Hi Mullins,

Yes, I have seen Candy/Hoover machines appear “stuck” with just a light flashing and no response. It does not point to one definite fault on its own, but you can narrow it down with a few basic checks.

1. Isolate the machine from the mains first Unplug it for at least 10–15 minutes, then power it back up. This can sometimes reset a locked control board.

2. Check whether it is actually in a paused or child-lock state Try pressing and holding the Start/Pause button for several seconds. Also check the user guide for child lock, as some Candy washer dryers will ignore all buttons if this has been enabled.

3. Try a programme reset Turn the selector to OFF, wait a few seconds, then select a simple spin or drain programme and press Start. If the selector feels loose or the display does not change properly, the programme knob or control panel may be faulty.

4. Check the door lock If the door interlock is not proving closed, the machine may power up but do nothing. Make sure the door closes firmly with a proper click. If it feels loose, the lock or catch could be at fault.

5. Look for signs of a control fault If all buttons press but nothing responds, and it always stops at “KG DETECT”, the main PCB or display/control board becomes a possibility on these machines.

If you need to inspect inside, always isolate from the mains first. For internal electrical testing, I’d recommend a qualified appliance engineer, as this may need proper diagnosis of the door lock circuit or control board.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
