I have to fit a new GENUINE HOOVER NEXTRA Washing Machine DOOR HANDLE KIT 97924201but I forgot to take a picture before taking it apart. I can get all the parts back together but can't get the spring to sit correctly. I know that the two halfs of the door will will take the spring work correctly but still does not work. If anyone has any advice or/and picture I'd be really grateful.

Hi Noddingdog63,
This is a very common problem on Hoover/Candy door handles — the spring position can be awkward if you haven’t got a reference photo.
Before doing anything, isolate the washing machine from the mains. You only need to work on the door here, but it’s still good practice.
1. Lay the door parts out in order Put the inner frame, outer frame/glass, handle, catch, pin and spring on a table. It helps to assemble it with the door lying flat so nothing jumps out.
2. Check how the spring should work The spring needs to return the handle to its resting position after you pull it. One end normally locates into a small hole/slot in the handle, and the other end locates against a lug or recess in the door moulding.
3. Fit the handle, catch and pin loosely first Usually the handle and catch sit together with the pin passing through them. Don’t fully clamp the two door halves together until you’ve confirmed the handle springs back properly.
4. Pre-load the spring slightly This is the bit people miss. The spring often has to be turned a little before the second end is seated, so it is under light tension when assembled. If it just sits in place with no tension, the handle won’t return.
5. Test before fully reassembling Hold the door halves together by hand and operate the handle several times. It should spring back cleanly and move the latch/catch properly.
6. If it still won’t sit right Check that the spring hasn’t been fitted upside down or that the catch isn’t reversed. On these kits, one small part the wrong way round stops the spring lining up.
If you can upload a photo of the parts laid out, I can usually tell you the spring orientation. If you’re unsure once it’s back on the machine, a qualified engineer is best for anything involving internal electrical parts.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
