AEG drum trying to spin but gets stuck
AEG L7WEG851R washer/dryer.
Have read the troubleshooting articles but not found this (very specific) issue. Any advice gratefully received.
The issue is that the drum is refusing to spin. It tries to spin, and does move slightly, but then it stops again. It then does the same in the opposite direction after a short delay. It's almost as if it's getting stuck on something. I'm not sure if the machine even registers an issue - no error code and it just keeps trying.
If we turn it off, open the door and rotate the drum by hand, there is initially some resistance - almost feels magnetic as it is notchy, if that makes sense. Then after a short delay it frees up and rotates nice and smoothly as normal.
We have tried putting it on rinse, on drain and spin, and on tumble dry but it does the same thing.
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

Does it have the resistance in the same place each time? In other words could it be something inside like a sock that is catching? Try turning it also with the belt disconnected so that you can tell if the resistance is from the motor or from the drum. Also try running on spin with the belt disconnected to see if the motor is the problem or whether it is only when the motor is trying to drive the drum.

Just in case anyone wonders what happened - replacing this wiring harness has solved the problem. Maybe I didn't describe it very well initially?
We paid £30 for an initial call out. £90 for the parts and labour, with the original £30 then deducted, so a grand total of £90 which, although ridiculous on such a new appliance, wasn't too hard to swallow!
Thanks for the update Chris. Clearly that is something that needs sorting out. However, I can't see how it could possibly account for any resistance in the drum. Isn't it a disgrace how poorly made appliances are these days. There's no excuse for wires overheating like that. It's just poor quality connections.

Local repair company appear to have now found the problem. See the photo - a wire has burnt out and come away from a connector. This is down next to the motor.
I don't feel comfortable replacing the wiring so they will be doing it for us. It's a cheap enough job that we'll give it a go, but they did warn us it's not a guaranteed fix.
If anything expensive is required after that then we'll be ditching it and getting a Miele.
