VOX WM652 problem after turning on

Hi everyone. You are probably unfamiliar with this brand, but my problem should be generic.

When I choose some program, like 90 degrees, and press start, machine starts getting water, and after it gets water how much it should it starts spinning (like spinning that should be done at the end of a program in order to drain water from clothes), instead of doing it slowly in both ways like when it's washing clothes. What could be a problem? Right now there is no any error code, but before that there was one for clogged drain "pipe", which I have cleaned and now there is no error.

Just to mention, when I choose drain only program, it works as it should, it drains water from the drum and turns off.

Thanks in advance.

It does sound like a fairly generic washer fault rather than anything brand-specific. If it fills normally but then goes straight into a fast spin-type action instead of wash tumble, the most likely issue is that the motor is not being controlled properly in wash mode.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.

1. Check whether it is truly going into full spin or just running the motor one way too fast Open the door only once it is safe and stopped, then try a low-temperature cotton or synthetics programme with no laundry inside. Listen carefully after fill. A normal wash should tumble slowly left and right. If it accelerates hard in one direction, that points more towards motor control, tacho, or wiring rather than a drain issue.

2. Re-check the drain system and pressure system Even though it now drains, make sure the pump filter, sump hose, and drain hose are fully clear. Also check the pressure chamber/pressure switch hose for blockage. If the machine is confused about water level, it can behave oddly during the wash phase.

3. Inspect the motor carbon brushes If this model has a brushed motor, worn brushes can cause strange motor behaviour. Check if they are sticking or badly worn. Also inspect the commutator and motor plug for burning or loose connections.

4. Check the tacho coil and wiring The tacho tells the control board how fast the motor is turning. If it has failed or the magnet/wiring is loose, the board can lose speed control.

5. Consider the control board If brushes, tacho, wiring, pressure system, and drain path are all sound, the motor control circuit on the PCB becomes a strong suspect.

If you are not confident testing live electrical parts, it is best to get a qualified appliance engineer, especially for mains-related repairs.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
