Emergency drain hose lost

ah yeah, colour catchers . i would say they are nasty culprits getting sucked out of the drum and through the pump - I have never used them at all in any of my machines.

Its like those tumble drier sheets are supposed to be bad for tumble driers as well, can cause fires if they get caught up in the vent hose or heater of the tumble dryer

I did have a read, Im one of those people who mixes whites and darks and partial to dyeing clothes with Dylon 😣 so using colour catchers seemed like a good idea. I think going forward I’ll either not use them at all, or put in the laundry net with other small items.

Up until yesterday I never had to clean the filter, I had so many washing machines over the years and to be honest didn’t know it’s something that needed done. My current washing machine is one year old and when it suddenly stopped mid cycle I googled it and figured it could be down to the blocked filter. Having a hose was really handy as the machine was full of water and would have flooded the downstairs toilet. Now I know not to use the colour catchers. That’s what completely blocked the filter and must be the reason why I never had any issues with my previous washing machines - I only started using the colour catcher last year 🤦🏻‍♀️

yep, I used to just put a shallow baking tray underneath the filter to catch the water as it come out when I unscrewed the filter.

Hi Alex. Millions of washing machines don't even have a small drain pipe, and for decades none of them did. So they aren't essential. They are a convenience.

Thank you both. There is a base so don’t think I’d be able to access it from the bottom. The other issue is that my tumble dryer and washing machine are stacked so I wouldn’t even dare to try..so annoyed as it’s my own doing… can’t believe whoever designed this didn’t think of making sure there is something to stop the hose from falling down the hole.

Oh right yeah, when you put it that way Andy your probably right - never thought of it slipping over the years I have done things to washing machines and never happen to me when I have tipped them back but yeah you have a point!

Hi Andy. It might be, though I'm a little hessitent to suggest that as it can be precarious. Even as an experienced engineer I've had a few of them fall back on me, or even slip and fall flat on its back. Especially on tiles.

I always remember one engineer tipped a washer back against the wall whilst working on a washing machine in a large cupboard, and the washer slipped, fell down the wall and smashed the customers electric meter off the wall 😂

Also a lot of washing machines are sealed off at the bottom now with a base.

I would advise it's safer to disconnect washer from plumbing and electrics and carefully lay it on its back if there is no base.
