Whirlpool WWDC7440 6th Sense - 7 year old - used once per week - to repair or not to repair?

Hello guys,

Just a quick one, my Whirpool WWDC7440 integrated machine brought brand new (approx £350-400? i believe) from AO 7 years ago used approx. once a week for past 7 years has last week decided to go bang with a burning smell just before a final spin on a wash programme - program finished but clothes and drum all had burning / smoky smell. Now no program starts, drain mode etc works, drum moves ok by hand...

Called whirlpool - repair £130 - plus 6 months cover on machine for any further issues.

or I can get this non-integrated samsung washer dryer for less than £500 (always wanted a dryer - but no space!) - but will not be integrated and will stick out of my worktop approx 7cm I believe:

https://ao.com/product/wd10t654dbh-samsung-series-6-addwash-washer-dryer-white-76917-2.aspx

Don't know what to do?

Any thoughts will be appreciated

Many thanks.

Hi nazx. 7 years is a fairly average life expectancy these days. If sticking out is not going to cause any problems, that's ok. Personally, I wouldn't buy Samsung as I hear a lot of complaints about aftersales service. I would go for something like Bosch. Also, washer dryers have limitations and compromises so just make sure you are happy with them.

Hi nazx. Quick washes are rubbish, IMHO. If you went out for a drink for a few hours one evening for example, and threw your shirt in the wash basket. A quick wash might suffice. But so many people use the quick washes to wash "normal washing" as simply a means to save time, and potentially electricity.

But you can't wash clothes properly "quickly". If you think about it, if laundry can be washed in half an hour or so – why do they take 2 to 3 hours?

Quick wash is a pure gimmick, that may occasionally be OK for some items that are virtually already clean and just need freshening up. So as long as that's why you want a quick wash, that's OK

I have more information here - Why does washing machine take so long to wash?

Thanks Andy. Hoping to use the dryer for bedsheets etc only in winter... Only thing I don't like about Bosch ones are they hardly do a quick wash..?
