Will this just be a drain pump replacement?

I dunno really - say about if the rest of the washing machine is working good and you are happy with it and you just need to replace the drum and the drum only cost around 150 pounds , but you can fit it yourself so dont have to pay for someone to come out and fit it.

£150 Vs. say £350 - £500 or more for a new washing machine and get some more years out of it? - then it might become more economical and better for the environment than dumping what could be a perfectly good machine apart from the drum needing replacement.

If however you are not happy with the washing machine and some other parts look like they are possibly on their way out and its getting on in years, and you were thinking of changing it anyway for a new washing machine then it will be un-economical putting a brand new drum into it.

Yikes. That's a write off. It's usually not worth replacing. Could it be covered by house insurance accidental damage by any chance?

The piece of metal was around 1 inch in length and 5mm thickness.

I've just checked the underneath of the drum as you instructed and I've found the damage, it's caused a hole in the drum unfortunately.

Hello there. If the water comes out straight away, and there is quite a lot, it sounds like the outer drum could have been punctured. How big was this piece of metal?

Just make sure that the water is not coming from the pump filter that you pulled out. Read the first article.

If it's not coming from the pump filter, which should be easy to check, then you need to find out where it is coming from using the advice in my 2nd linked article. You may need to disconnect the washing machine, pull it out lay it on its front to examine the bottom of the outer drum for damage.

At the end of the day if it leaks quite a lot after the metal object has got inside and rattled around making a noise then unless the leak is simply caused because the pump filter seal is dirty, or has not been put back properly, the only real other explanation is that the metal part has caused some serious damage.

The noise started/tab has come off during a cycle. There was no leaking during this cycle.

Then the next time a wash was tried, the leaking started with the same noise again, to which I then checked the filter and removed the piece of metal. I tried another wash after the metal had been removed, the noise has now stopped but water leaks out the same.

The water comes out when the washer starts and it's alot, so I turned it off straight away. Not sure on where it's coming from as there's so much and its from underneath.
