Bosch WAN28150GB not spinning
Our Bosch WAN28150GB is 2.5 years old and has stopped spinning. We suspect it might be the brushes that need replacing. It will drain and when I tested it with a light t-shirt it could spin, anything heavier is too much to handle and it just stops (and makes a slight click/beeping sound.)
Is it worth getting an engineer in or better purchasing a new one?
Anything else I can try first?

Make sure the drive belt isn’t slack as the motor could slip inside it when drum is loaded but turn drum ok when empty. It would need to be quite slack for the motor to slip though. It should be quite obvious if it’s too slack, and it isn’t common.
Other than that, if the motor runs ok without a load but not under load, it could be a fault inside the motor, which would need a new motor, or a fault in the electronics, maybe a capacitor or the PCB. Other than checking the motor plug and connections there’s nothing much you can do. This kind of fault usually doesn’t have a test for determining which and commonly an engineer would try a different motor and if that didn’t work try a new PCB.

Aye, capacitors can hold a nasty charge. Some washing machines hold a very big hundreds of volts charge on the metal part of control modules for several minutes after being unplugged.

ah right, yeah I always used to get mixed up what had the starter capacitor if it were the brush or brushless type motors - thought it were brushless.
It could be that possibly then - will be a big massive capacitor presumably even if it is incorporated on the motor board these days . The repairer would do good to de-energise the capacitor(s) on that board before handling - could get quite a jolt off those boards even with the 3 pin plug plugged out on the wall! - I have had some jolts before meself off washing machine motor control panels before even when unplugged ⚡
Yes Andy, that's what I meant when I said capacitor. I should have said startup capacitor. Not sure if they still use the big silver cylinder capacitors, or whether the startup is all achieved with components in the pcb.
The startup capacitor faulting used to stop the motor turning at all but thisnone turns without a load in the drum. I guess it's possible that it fails under load.

is it induction (brushless) motors that have the starter capacitor fitted to the machine (or on the motor control board) - could that be at fault and need changing on that particular machine Andy?
have just been told this motor is brushless so won't be that then
