Hoover VT 814D21-80 not working
Hi all,
I'm having an issue with a Hoover VT 814D21-80.
The machine has stopped working, there is nothing showing on the display and none of the lights light up.
It beeps as you turn the dial and when you press the buttons so I would assume there is power going to it.
I thought it was going to be the control panel so I replaced it, but nothing has changed.
I have Googled and YouTubed but with no joy unfortunately.
Just wondered if anyone here may be able to shed any light on this?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Grant

Hoover VT 814D21-80 dead display but control beeps
- The problem
- A Hoover VT 814D21-80 washing machine stopped working with a blank display and no indicator lights. The programme dial and buttons still produced beeps, suggesting some power was present. The user initially replaced the small control-panel board behind the buttons and dial, but this made no difference.
- Likely cause
- Most strongly supported diagnosis was a power supply fault on the main PCB, though a faulty connection or broken wire was also considered possible. A burned connection, including around the door lock or elsewhere in the wiring, was suggested as another possibility. The exact fault was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- Forum advice was that replacing the main PCB would be a gamble because the fault might instead be wiring or connection related. Suggested checks were to try a different wall socket and inspect for burned connections, particularly around the door lock and other connectors. The user did not carry out or report a confirmed repair and decided to stop further work.
- Checks to try
- Control panel board replaced with no change
- Different wall socket suggested
- Visual check for burned connections on the door lock or elsewhere suggested
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Control panel circuit board behind the buttons and programme dial
- Main PCB
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hello Grant. The fact that there are beeps shows that it's nothing to do with fuses or wall sockets etc. which is normally the first line of enquiry. The lack of the display also discounts many other things including things like the door lock. This sounds more like a power supply problem in the PCB. However, it could also turn out to be just a faulty connection somewhere or even a broken wire. Therefore I would say is a big gamble replacing PCB. They are very expensive normally and if it doesn't work you can't send it back.

Thanks Andy for your reply, I have replaced the PCB. I purchased it second hand so it was very much cheaper than new. Unfortunately it made no difference. The cables from the PCB look like they are going into what I can only describe as a large capacitor type thing (sorry no idea what it is) at the back of the machine. Could this be at fault do you think? Thanks
Hi. That’s why I never recommend fitting pcbs as so often it doesn’t fix the fault. If there’s a large capacitor it will normally be for the motor. Have you tried a completely different wall socket and had a good look for any burned connections on the door lock, or anywhere else in case there’s a strange burned out connection that’s passing reduced power?

Thanks again Andy, when I said I replaced the PCB I actually thought I had but turns out it’s the small control panel circuit board behind the buttons and programme dial. I have only just seen the large PCB at the bottom of the machine 😂 At this point I’m giving up. I have about four weeks until I have a new kitchen fitted with new appliances, I just thought if I could get this back up and running until then it would really help, but I am now happy to annoy family by turning up with bags of washing for a while. Thank you so much for your help and advice though Andy, very much appreciated 👍
